Americans Cut 9.6 Billion Miles Off Commute

This May Americans drove 9.6 billion fewer miles than in May of last year. The reason of course is the high price of gas this year. Everyone hates the high gas prices of course, but isn’t this what we’ve been trying to do for years: get people to use public transportation / carpooling more? High gas prices may not be good for the economy, but perhaps they are good for the environment?
